Heritage Academy’s sailing program offers students in grades 6–12 an exceptional opportunity to engage in competitive sailing while balancing academic commitments. Practices provide students with hands-on experience in a dynamic coastal environment
The team competes in the South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association (SAISA), participating in regional regattas and fostering a spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship. Under the leadership of Head Coach Harry Stickley and Assistant Coach Bev Crawford, student-athletes receive dedicated mentorship to develop their sailing skills and strategic understanding of the sport.

Hilton Head Island Sailing League Fall 2025 Season Information:
The South Carolina Yacht Club will again be offering the HHI high school sailing league. Sailing activities will be offered to anyone in grades 8-12 in public and private schools in the Hilton Head Island area. This year, we will offer all schools the opportunity to participate in a 9-week sailing season incorporating practices and competition. (August 25-October 24)

Week of August 25 –
Practice begins, weather permitting.
Open Practice must attend two per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday). Possible “Wednesdays”. TBD. Start time will be 4:15.

Requirements
All participants are required to attend at least Two (2) practices each week. These practices can vary based on weather, wind, and sea conditions.
Daily participation and attendance will be monitored using the Hilton Head High School League “Stack Team App.” Information will be provided at the parents meeting. August 18th
Coaches
The South Carolina Yacht Club will provide coaching for practices and regattas. Sweta Shervegar, a two-time Olympic hopeful and years of dinghy coaching with Oakcliff sailing. She will be the head sailing coach in charge of all high school and Middle school sailing.
Parent Involvement
We will request heavy parent involvement for transportation to and from the South Carolina Yacht Club for practices and regattas.
Cost
Each school has a different policy for program costs. The Cost will be $250 per sailor, paid to SCYC.
