A note from our Head of School

Amanda Williams-O’Nan

Welcome to Heritage Academy, a 6th – 12th grade academic institution where academic excellence is the school’s priority at every level, dedicated to nurturing each student’s strengths and talents while guiding and challenging each one to achieve their dreams.

Heritage Academy offers a personalized educational program for every student to ensure success and create educational champions, prepared to thrive in every area of life. As Head of School, and a mother to 13-year-old twin girls and a 19-year-old boy, I fully understand the demands on parents to identify a school which is founded on integrity and honor, educational excellence, in and outside the classroom, and athletic development.

Having attended University of Kentucky and received a Bachelor of Science in vocational education, followed by a Master’s in educational leadership, it has prepared me for a career dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in education. After spending over ten years as the principal of Hilton Head Island High School and then starting Clear College Counseling, I am thrilled to be in institutional education full-time, creating not just the best school in South Carolina, but in the entire southeast, challenging every school on the east coast. Committed to raising the standards of academics, emphasis is placed on the overall growth mindset of each child.

Under our program, Heritage Academy is a visionary academic institution offering a myriad of options designed specifically for each student’s requirements, including a Dual Language Diploma through the U.S. State Department, a dual enrollment with the University of South Carolina Beaufort, Lees McRae and Technical College of the Lowcountry, as well as a personalized concierge enrichment program designed for each student’s unique demands.

Heritage Academy offers flexible scheduling coupled with eminent custom-made academic programs crafted to meet each student’s aspirations and dreams, currently at a more reasonable tuition than neighboring private schools in the Lowcountry.

I am thrilled to bring together top students who value academics, athletics, and unique external interests combined with outstanding educators and support from the Beaufort community, including its higher education universities, to create an environment where academic scholars and athletic champions will thrive.

I hope you will join me in our goal to achieve unsurpassed educational accomplishments, as well as preeminent athletics and unique opportunities for our children of the southeast. I welcome you to visit Heritage Academy either online or in person.

The Heritage Academy
Philosophy:

We believe our small caring community of diverse and trained teachers, working closely with their students, creates the ideal learning environment. Young people have curious minds, vast energy, innate talent, and incredible spirits, all waiting to be awakened and nurtured.

We respect research suggesting a student’s analytical thinking skills, creative style, and civic responsibility can only reach full potential if opportunities for active, hands-on learning experiences take place daily.

Whether in the classroom or out pursuing extracurricular passions, Heritage students are actively engaged in learning– as accomplished scholars, artists, athletes, workforce, or community members.

Our collective and individual successes evolve from shared responsibility to give our best each day.

Our goal is to graduate a life champion ~ one who demonstrates academic excellence, a zest for life and strong character.
